What is Fan Fiction?

Fan fiction is a story, or collection of stories written be people who are fans of a particular movie, TV show or even books. They may include the characters from the original work, though from the point of view of writing fan fiction at openfiction.com we would advise any would be fanfiction authors to carefully consider the copyright issues that may occur if you're using Hollywood movies or indeed any famous (or perhaps not so famous!) literature as your base.

But, if the original author doesn't mind, fan fiction can be really good fun to read and write, since it essentially carries plots and stories into dimensions that perhaps were not even thought of by the original author.

You probably shouldn't expect it to make the next Hollywood blockbuster though!
